From the CES announcements to the Kodak bankruptcy rumors, this week was a busy week in the photography news.

This week’s 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas was where the camera makers announced brand new products to the public. Here are the highlights:

  • Canon launches the PowerShot G1 X. For $800 you can get the newest addition to Canon’s G-series. It has a 14-megapixel CMOS sensor that is six times larger than the other G cameras; that’s nearly the size of a DSLR’s sensor. It can handle 14-bit RAW images and 1080p Full HD Video recording. It is equipped with a 4x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom and 28mm lens (35mm equivalent: 28-112mm) which goes down to  f/2.8.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Fujifilm introduces the X-Pro1 a 16-megapixel mirrorless camera. The gorgeous  retro-style camera accepts interchangeable lenses and uses a new APS-C size sensor. The 3 lenses that will go on sale in February include an 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4 and 60mm f/2.4. More lenses will be announced in the future. The camera will go on sale in February for an estimated $1,700 along with the lenses priced at $600 a piece.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Nikon unveils the D4 Professional DSLR. The 16.2-megapixel camera is the successor to the D3s and will be available in February at a $5,999 price tag. It has a full-frame sensor, can shoot at 10 frames per second and produces Full HD video.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The “App of the Year” for the iPad on your computer. Snapseed, the photo editing and sharing app developed by Nik Software was a huge success on the iPad and is now available for $19.99 from the Mac App Store.

 

  • Lightroom 4 beta now available. Adobe has announced that Lightroom is now available for you to use and test for free. For a full list of the upgrades and enhancements or to download the program go here.

 

  • In other news, Kodak is on the verge of bankruptcy and is trying to survive. The company has filed lawsuits against Apple and HTC over infringement of 4 patents.
