Today is the World Photography Day and according to the World Photography Day website it all started in 1839:

World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced the Daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift “free to the world”.

So for the love of photography go out and shoot (indoor shoots are fun too) and make pictures! You can then submit your best picture to the World Photography Day gallery. Submissions are accepted until August 26th, 2011
